Dr. Ali Ali is a Lecturer in the Curtin Law School at Curtin University, within the Faculty of Business and Law. As a sole Australian legal practitioner and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, he has held various positions across legal practice and academia. His academic qualifications include a PhD in Law from Curtin Law School, Curtin University; a Master of Human Rights Law and Policy (MHRL&P) from the University of New South Wales; an LLM from the University of Chittagong, Bangladesh; and an LLB (Honours) from the University of Chittagong, Bangladesh. Dr. Ali teaches core subjects such as Fundamentals of Business and Corporations Law, Company Law for Business, Business Law, and Corporations Law, emphasizing practical problem-solving and comparative approaches.
Dr. Ali's research interests focus on corporate governance, company law, business law, legal education, shipbreaking policy, circular economy, and decommissioning regulations. His PhD research addresses injustices to workers in the South Asian shipbreaking industry, seeking a civil liability framework in international law to provide compensation for injured workers and families of deceased individuals. Key publications include his textbook Fundamentals of Business and Corporations Law: A Problem-solving and Comparative Approach (Thomson Reuters). He earned the Dean's Curtin Law School Award in the Best Sessional Staff category (2021) and the Best Paper Award at the 5th International Conference on Comparative Law, organized jointly by Edith Cowan University (2024). Dr. Ali has presented at events such as the Curtin energy research showcase on circular economy and decommissioning, and Shut up and Write sessions at Curtin Library.
