Professor Alis Yovana Pataquiva-Mateus is a chemical engineer affiliated with the Department of Engineering at Universidad de Bogotá Jorge Tadeo Lozano in Colombia. She leads research in the Nanobioengineering Research Group, focusing on areas including textile nanotechnology, bacterial cellulose, waste recovery, and education in engineering. Her work encompasses the development of nanomaterials and biopolymers for applications in tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, and sustainable materials.
She has collaborated with researchers at Flinders University’s College of Science and Engineering on projects involving biodegradable polymeric nanocomposite films. A 2025 publication co-authored with Nikolay Estiven Gomez Mesa and Youhong Tang, titled “Exploring Biodegradable Polymeric Nanocomposite Films for Sustainable Food Packaging Application,” appeared in the journal Polymers. The study examined films made from calcium caseinate, modified starch, and bentonite nanoclay, demonstrating full disintegration in soil within approximately 13 weeks. Professor Pataquiva-Mateus has contributed to discussions on circular economy solutions for plastic pollution through this international collaboration.
