Alka Bramhandkar is a retired Professor of Finance and International Business in the School of Business at Ithaca College, where she spent over 40 years advancing education and leadership in business disciplines. She earned her Ph.D. in Economics and Finance in 1989, M.A. in Economics in 1984, and M.B.A. in Finance in 1974 from the State University of New York at Binghamton, along with a B.Com. in Commerce, Accounting, and Economics in 1972 from the University of Mumbai, India. Her academic career at Ithaca College began in 1984 as Assistant and Associate Professor of Finance and International Business, progressing to full Professor in 2008. Bramhandkar held key administrative roles including Chair of the Department of Finance and International Business from 2015 to 2020, Associate Dean of the School of Business from 2010 to 2011, and Interim Dean of the School of Business from 2020 to 2022. Prior to her tenure at Ithaca College, she served as Budget Executive at Richard Hindustan Ltd. in Bombay, India, from 1975 to 1981, and worked as Accounts Assistant at Rational Art and Pres Pvt. Ltd. She also gained international teaching experience as Instructor for University of Dubuque MBA programs in Hong Kong and Singapore (1994-1995), at Australian National University (1991), and SUNY Binghamton (1990 and 1992). Additionally, she worked as Financial Consultant at Salomon Smith Barney, Inc., in Binghamton, NY, from 1999 to 2000. Bramhandkar holds professional qualifications including Series 7, 63, and 65 financial certifications (not active), Associate Member of the Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India (active), and courses from the Appraisal Institute of Chicago in real estate finance and appraisals.
Bramhandkar received a Fulbright U.S. Scholar award in Fall 2022, serving at Facultad de Economia y Negocios, Universidad del Desarrollo in Santiago, Chile, and taught at Burgundy School of Business in Dijon, France, in March 2013. Her scholarly contributions include numerous peer-reviewed publications such as "Socially Conscious Investing: Do Good Deeds Get Punished?" (Social Responsibility Journal, 2018), "Discrimination at Places of Public Accommodation After Masterpiece Cakeshop Ltd v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission" (North East Journal of Legal Studies, 2019), "Intellectual Capital and Organizational Performance: An Empirical Study of the Pharmaceutical Industry" (Electronic Journal of Knowledge Management, 2008), "Sustainability Strategies of Leading Global Firms and Their Financial Performance: A Comparative Case Based Approach" (Journal of Applied Business and Economics, 2012), and "ROSCAs Remain Strong in India despite Greater Financial Inclusion" (International Journal of Management & Sustainability, 2014). She has presented extensively at conferences including North East Academy of Legal Studies in Business, Association for Global Business, New York State Economics Association, and Eastern Finance Association on topics such as peer-to-peer marketplaces, corporate sustainability, capital structure, mergers and acquisitions, intellectual capital, business ethics, and legal issues in finance.
