About Allan

Allan Eberhart is a tenured Professor of Finance at Georgetown University's McDonough School of Business, where he serves as Senior Associate Dean for Graduate Programs in Finance and was the Founding Director of the Master of Science in Finance program, the school's first technology-intensive offering. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in business administration and economics from Thomas More College, a Master’s degree in economics from the University of Cincinnati, a Doctorate in finance from the University of South Carolina, and a Doctorate in higher education management from the University of Pennsylvania. His career includes roles as inaugural Senior Associate Dean for Technology-Intensive Education, Founding Academic Director of the ICBC Executive Education program, and Finance Area Coordinator. Eberhart previously taught as a Visiting Assistant Professor at New York University’s Stern School of Business, delivering a core MBA finance course, and served as an Associated Consultant with A.T. Kearney while consulting for organizations such as Ashmore Group, Barclays, Goldman Sachs, and Standard & Poor’s. He has instructed 15 distinct courses for undergraduate, MBA, EMBA, MSF, and certificate students and participates on the University Committee on Graduate Studies.

Eberhart has authored dozens of articles in premier finance journals, including the Journal of Finance, Review of Financial Studies, and Journal of Accounting Research. Key publications encompass “An Examination of Long-Term Abnormal Stock Returns and Operating Performance Following R&D Increases” (Journal of Finance, 2004), “The Equity Performance of Firms Emerging from Bankruptcy” (Journal of Finance, 1999), “A Reexamination of the Tradeoff Between the Future Benefit and Riskiness of R&D Increases” (Journal of Accounting Research, 2008), and “The Long-Term Performance of Corporate Bonds (and Stocks) Following Seasoned Equity Offerings” (Review of Financial Studies, 2002). He acted as Associate Editor for the Journal of Banking and Finance and Journal of Financial Research, and penned editorials for Bloomberg Businessweek, Forbes, Fortune, and the Wall Street Journal. Among his honors are multiple teaching awards and recognition in Businessweek’s ranking of favorite business school professors.
