Amanda B. Lees is a Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader in Healthcare Ethics in the Faculty of Health and Environmental Sciences at Auckland University of Technology. She serves as the Faculty of Health and Environmental Sciences Ethics Lead on the AUT Ethics Committee. Lees earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Auckland, a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Sciences specialising in Health Care Ethics from AUT, and a Master of Health Science with Honours from AUT. Her teaching focuses on interprofessional health care ethics for undergraduate and postgraduate health professionals. Lees has been recognised with the 2017 Individual Teaching Excellence Award from the AUT Faculty of Health and Environmental Sciences and holds Senior Fellow status with the Higher Education Academy.
Lees' research specialisations include health care ethics, ethics education, research ethics, reflexivity in qualitative scholarship of teaching and learning, and child protection in oral health professions. Notable publications encompass 'Ethics education for health professionals: a values based approach' (2013, co-authored with R. Godbold, Nurse Education in Practice), 'Illuminating the role of reflexivity within qualitative pilot studies: Experiences from a scholarship of teaching and learning project' (2022, co-authored with S. Walters and R. Godbold, International Journal of Qualitative Methods), 'Child abuse knowledge and attitudes among dental and oral health therapists in New Zealand' (2022, co-authored with H. Han), 'Reconceptualizing participant vulnerability in Scholarship of Teaching and Learning research' (2024), and 'Protecting children in Aotearoa New Zealand: a review on professional responsibilities and policies governing oral health professionals' (2025, co-authored with H. Han et al.). With over 250 citations on Google Scholar, her scholarship influences ethics training and professional practice. Lees contributes to professional development through initiatives like designing authentic cMOOCs and supporting LMS transitions during COVID-19, and she supervises postgraduate theses.
