Amanda Wang is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Macquarie Medical School at Macquarie University. She holds an MBBS, a PhD from the University of Sydney, and is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP). As a consultant nephrologist and general physician, she holds appointments at Concord Repatriation General Hospital, Ryde Hospital, and Northern Beaches Hospital. She also maintains private practices at Macquarie University Hospital and Sydney Adventist Hospital. Additionally, Wang serves as a clinical senior lecturer at the University of New South Wales and the University of Sydney, a senior research fellow at The George Institute for Global Health, and a visiting professor at Beijing Friendship Hospital, affiliated with Capital Medical University in China.
Wang's research focuses on acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, dialysis therapy, hypertension, diabetic kidney disease, and glomerular disease. She has authored or co-authored more than 60 peer-reviewed publications and has participated in numerous international randomized controlled trials. Notable publications include 'Spironolactone versus placebo in patients undergoing maintenance dialysis (ACHIEVE): an international, parallel-group, randomised controlled trial' published in The Lancet in 2025, 'The aldosterone blockade for health improvement evaluation in end-stage renal disease (ACHIEVE) trial: rationale and clinical research protocol' in the Canadian Journal of Kidney Health and Disease in 2025, 'Association of age, frailty, and strategy for initiation of renal-replacement therapy: a post hoc analysis of the STARRT-Acute Kidney Injury trial' in Blood Purification in 2024, and 'Digital physical activity and exercise interventions for people living with chronic kidney disease: a systematic review of health outcomes and feasibility' in the Journal of Medical Systems in 2024. Her research career has been supported by prestigious fellowships, including the John Chalmers clinical research fellowship, National Heart Foundation postdoctoral fellowship, and RACP Jacquot research establishment fellowship. She has also been awarded as a high-level foreign expert by the China Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs.
