About Amani

Dr. Amani Kanugolu serves as Assistant Professor in the School of Liberal Arts at Shri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal's Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), Navi Mumbai, where she teaches courses including Foundations of Psychology, Physiological Psychology, Research and Experimentation, Statistics in Social Sciences, and Neuro-forensic Practicals. She earned her Ph.D. in Psychology from Karnatak University, Dharwad, and M.Sc. in Clinical and Counselling Psychology from SDMC, Mangalore University. Dr. Kanugolu has qualified UGC-NET, K-SET, GATE, and F-PACT, and is recognized as a Ph.D. supervisor. Her professional experience encompasses 6.5 years of teaching and 1.02 years as a Forensic Professional in the Psychology Division at the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL), Bhopal, under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. She holds certifications as a Certified Polygraph-based Lie Detection User from Axxonet System Technologies and Authorized LVA 6.50 Operator from Nemesysco Voice Analysis Technologies.

Dr. Kanugolu's research examines executive functions among under-trials and accused individuals, interrogative suggestibility, depression and quality of life in prisoners, and emotional labor in high-stress professions. Notable publications include 'Duration of Incarceration on Executive Functions Among Under-Trials, with Age as a Moderator' in the Journal of Forensic Psychology Research and Practice (2025), 'Variation in Executive Functions among Accused of Different Types of Crimes' in the Journal of the Indian Academy of Applied Psychology (2024), 'Socio-Demographic Factors and Interrogative Suggestibility among Under-trial Prisoners' in Madhya Bharti, 'Depression and Quality of Life among Convicts and Under-trial Prisoners of Ballari Central Jail' in the Indian Psychological Review, and the book chapter 'Polygraph in Crime Investigation' in Discerning Crime: Psychological, Forensic and Legal Aspects. She has received the Best Faculty Award (2024-2025) from SVKM’s NMIMS, Best Paper Award at the IAAP International Symposium on Mental Health and Well-being (Reva University, 2022), Dipak Bhat Award for Best Research Paper at the 53rd National and 22nd International IAAP Conference (Pondicherry University), Best Presenter Award at an ICSSR-sponsored program (Pondicherry University), First Rank and General Proficiency Awards during her M.Sc. (2015-2017), and Academic Excellence Award from SBRR Mahajana FGC (Mysore University). As a resource person, she has delivered expert lectures on forensic psychology, polygraph techniques, antisocial behavior, and mental health at institutions such as IIM Bangalore (SEHAT project, 2025), Reva University (2024), and University of Calicut (2021). She is a member of the Indian Academy of Applied Psychology.
