About Ammar

Professor Ammar Kaka serves as Pro Vice-Chancellor and President of Curtin University Dubai. He is a Professor of Construction Economics and Management with an international reputation for research on the planning, management, and control of construction projects. Professor Kaka is the author of more than 150 publications and has held numerous funded research grants, with impact demonstrated through citation counts and direct industrial application. He is a fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and a member of the editorial boards of several international academic journals. He has supervised more than 30 PhD students to completion, many of whom have advanced to senior roles in government, industry, and academia.

Professor Kaka began his academic career at the University of Liverpool, where he spent nine years as a faculty member in the School of Architecture and Building Engineering. He then joined Heriot-Watt University, spending nine years at the Edinburgh campus in senior roles including Director of the MENA hub and Director of Learning and Teaching, while also leading the construction economics and management research group. He subsequently served as Provost and Vice-Principal of Heriot-Watt University Dubai, where he grew the campus to over 4,000 students and 250 staff while fostering a research culture. Prior to his appointment at Curtin University Dubai in 2024, he was President of Applied Science University in the Kingdom of Bahrain. With extensive experience in transnational education across the United Arab Emirates and the broader region, Professor Kaka focuses on elevating Curtin Dubai through innovation, industry partnerships, and student success.
