Amy Bahruth is a Lecturer in Labor Studies and Employment Relations at the Rutgers School of Management and Labor Relations. With more than 30 years of experience as a safety and health specialist and educator, she currently serves as Assistant Director in the Union Leadership Institute at the American Federation of Teachers in Washington, DC. In this capacity, she has trained hundreds of union members and developed curricula on key topics such as bullying, workplace violence, emergency preparedness, and indoor environmental quality. Previously, she worked as a staff representative for the Communications Workers of America, representing public employees in the state of New Jersey. Bahruth has been teaching in the Rutgers labor studies program since 1997, delivering courses including OSHA, Introduction to Labor Studies and Employment Relations, Development of the Labor Movement II, Internships in Labor Education, Youth at Work, and Occupational Safety and Health.
Bahruth holds a bachelor's degree in labor studies from Rutgers University and a master's degree in environmental and occupational health science from Hunter College, City University of New York. She is a former president of the Rutgers Part-Time Lecturer faculty union, American Association of University Professors-American Federation of Teachers (AAUP-AFT), and currently serves as secretary of the National AFT Staff Union (AFTSU). Her professional contributions extend to labor education and occupational health advocacy, reflecting her dual expertise in labor relations and workplace safety. Through her teaching and union leadership roles, she has influenced labor studies education and supported adjunct faculty rights at Rutgers.
