Amy French serves as CSP Coordinator and Associate Professor in the School of Counseling, Higher Education, Leadership, and Foundations within Bowling Green State University's College of Education and Human Development. Her academic background encompasses a Ph.D. in Higher Education/Higher Education Administration from Indiana State University in 2016, a Master of Arts in Social Justice (MASJ) from Loyola University Chicago in 2010, and a B.A. in Political Science from Kentucky Wesleyan College in 2001. French's research specializations include cultural consciousness on college campuses, managing campus impressions and exploring campus reimagination, professional preparation through the incorporation of theory into practice, and the notion of engaged competence both with and for students, all grounded in social justice.
French has contributed key publications to the fields of higher education and student affairs. These include co-authoring with L. J. Shelton "Incorporating diversity topics in the higher education/student affairs (HESA) classroom" published in Developments in 2022, and with S. Price-Williams "Sense of belonging in relation to social class and socioeconomic status" in The Impact of Sense of Belonging in College: Implications for Student Persistence, Retention, and Success in 2022. She collaborated with S. Schoper on "Creating inclusivity while providing accommodations: A practical guide to champion individuals with (dis)abilities on campus," an ACPA monograph from 2021. In Unleashing Suppressed Voices on Campus: Diversity Issues in Higher Education (2nd ed., 2020), French authored "Accessibility or inclusivity?: A case exploring students with disabilities," "Diversifying the board of trustees: Intentionality matters," and co-authored "A tenured threat" with H. Atwell, G. Miller, and L. Moore. Additional works are "Utilization of theory, research, and assessment to enhance multiculturalism, diversity, social justice, and inclusion" in Multicultural and Diversity Issues in Student Affairs Practice (2019) and "Institutional impressions through economic impact studies" in the Journal of Economic Development in Higher Education (2019). As coordinator of BGSU's College Student Personnel program, which celebrated 60 years in 2024, she shapes the professional development of future student affairs practitioners.
