Andrew Boxsell serves as a Lecturer in the School of Health Sciences at the University of Notre Dame Australia, Fremantle campus, having joined the Health Sciences team in 2021 to teach in the Bachelor of Health and Physical Education degree. His qualifications include a Bachelor of Education (Secondary), Graduate Certificate in Education, and a Master of Applied Positive Psychology completed through the University of Melbourne. With more than 20 years of global teaching experience in primary and secondary schools across Western Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States, Andrew has worked both as a classroom teacher and in pastoral care roles. His primary responsibilities focus on delivering physical education pedagogy for secondary and primary levels, underpinned by a strong passion for whole school wellbeing. This extensive practical background enables him to bridge school-based experiences with tertiary education effectively.
In his academic career at Notre Dame Australia, Andrew has demonstrated commitment to enhancing student engagement through innovative partnerships, as highlighted in his co-presentation titled 'Building partnerships to increase engagement: A case study from the Health & Physical Education degree' at the 2022 Educator Scholar Summit, alongside Mark Clayden and Ben Piggott. He holds research expertise in Honours supervision, having supported student projects in 2022, and continues to supervise the ongoing Honours research 'Girls Can Play Too: Investigating the impact...' with Dr Jenny Conlon since 2023. Andrew has been nominated twice for excellence in teaching awards in Western Australia, reflecting recognition of his contributions to pedagogy in Health and Physical Education. His work emphasizes practical, student-centered approaches that foster wellbeing and engagement in physical education.
