About Andrew

Andrew Ng is an Adjunct Professor of Computer Science at Stanford University. He previously held a tenured faculty position in Stanford’s Computer Science department and served as Director of the Stanford Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (SAIL), which includes more than 20 faculty members and research groups. Ng joined Stanford in 2002 as an assistant professor and became an associate professor in 2009 before transitioning to his current adjunct role.

Ng earned a B.S. in Mathematics/Computer Science, Statistics, and Economics from Carnegie Mellon University, an M.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley. His research centers on machine learning, deep learning, artificial intelligence, and robotics. He founded and led the Google Brain project, served as Chief Scientist at Baidu where he oversaw a large AI team, and has authored or co-authored more than 200 research papers in these fields. Ng co-founded Coursera and deeplearning.ai, and he founded Landing AI. In 2023 he was named to the Time100 AI list. Over eight million people have taken AI courses taught by Ng.
