Anelle Young serves as a Lecturer in the Curtin School of Allied Health, part of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Curtin University in Perth, Australia. She coordinates the unit OCCT1001: Introduction to Occupational Therapy and maintains active involvement with the Curtin Occupational Therapy Society, serving as a key contact for student events and initiatives. Previously, Young was the Gerontology Unit Coordinator at Curtin University, contributing to events celebrating residents' lives in collaboration with organizations like Catholic Homes. Her occupational therapy background informs her role as a community representative on the board of Harrisdale Primary School. Currently, she is recruiting participants for her PhD project titled "Co-designing an Intergenerational Support Program for People with Dementia Living in Residential Aged Care." Young's academic interests focus on occupational therapy education, student professional development, work-integrated learning through life story interventions, and occupational therapy strategies to support older adults, including preventing functional decline.
Young's scholarly contributions include peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations in occupational therapy pedagogy. Key works are "Development of skills and attitudes through telling life stories: life story work as work-integrated learning for occupational therapy students," co-authored with Claire Morrisby and published in Educational Gerontology in 2022. She presented "Video life stories: reflecting on student professional development" at the Occupational Therapy Australia conference in 2019 with Morrisby and Elizabeth Oliver. Other outputs encompass a 2025 scoping review, "Do occupational therapy groups prevent functional decline for older adults?" with Morrisby and Indianna King, and an e-poster in 2023 on "The experiences of a student-led special interest group by occupational therapy students at Curtin University," co-authored with Dave Parsons, Melissa Nguyen, Analyce Armstrong, Emily McBlane, and Jessica McCann. In recognition of teaching excellence, Young was part of a team awarded a Curtin University Excellence in Teaching Award. Her efforts promote experiential learning, peer-assisted teaching, and student-led special interest groups to enhance skills for clinical practice in occupational therapy.
