Angela D'Rozario, BSc (Hons) PhD RPSGT, is an NHMRC Emerging Leadership Fellow and Associate Professor in the School of Psychological Sciences at Macquarie University. She earned her PhD in Sleep Medicine from the University of Sydney in 2014, with a thesis titled "Electroencephalogram (EEG) Biomarkers of Neurobehavioural Dysfunction in Obstructive Sleep Apnea," and her BSc (Hons) in Applied Biological Sciences from the University of the West of England in 2000. Initially trained as a sleep technologist at St Thomas' Hospital in London, UK, she has built a distinguished career in sleep neuroscience. At the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research, affiliated with Macquarie University, she serves as Research Leader of the Sleep and Circadian Research Group since May 2021 and Director of the Centre for Chronic Diseases of Ageing since July 2022. She established and heads a world-class high-density EEG facility dedicated to sleep neuroscience research.
D'Rozario's research specializations include sleep neurophysiology, the effects of sleep disruption on cognitive function, memory, performance, and alertness, sleep disturbances in ageing and neurodegeneration, sleep apnea and severe mental illness, sleepiness and driving risk, local sleep regulation, and interventions to enhance slow wave sleep and cognition using high-density EEG. She led the EEG Biomarker Discovery Program within the NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence to Optimise Sleep in Brain Ageing and Neurodegeneration (CogSleep CRE, 2019-2023) and is a Chief Investigator on the NHMRC Synergy SIESTA Research Program. Notable awards and fellowships include the NHMRC Emerging Leadership Fellowship, NHMRC-ARC Dementia Research Development Fellowship (2016-2020), NHMRC Investigator Grant (2022-2026), NHMRC Dora Lush Priority PhD Scholarship, and the Helen Bearpark Memorial Scholarship from the Australasian Sleep Association. Key publications feature "Safety of higher doses of melatonin in adults: A systematic review and meta-analysis" (2022, Journal of Pineal Research), "Objective measurement of sleep in mild cognitive impairment: A systematic review and meta-analysis" (2020, Sleep Medicine Reviews), "Structural brain correlates of obstructive sleep apnoea in older adults at risk for dementia" (2018, European Respiratory Journal), "Quantitative electroencephalogram measures in adult obstructive sleep apnea – Potential biomarkers of neurobehavioural functioning" (2017, Sleep Medicine Reviews), and "Improvements in cognitive function and quantitative sleep electroencephalogram in obstructive sleep apnea after CPAP treatment" (2022). She is a member of the Australasian Sleep Association Research Committee and serves on the Board of the Australia and New Zealand Sleep Science Association.
