Angela Kueny is an Associate Professor of Nursing at Luther College, where she joined the faculty in 2010, later promoted to Associate Professor, served as Associate Department Head (2017-2018, 2020-2021), and Department Head (2021-2025). She currently directs the Global Health Program. Kueny earned her B.A. in Nursing from Luther College in 2002, M.S.N. from the University of Iowa in 2009, and Ph.D. in Nursing from the University of Iowa in 2011, with a dissertation titled 'Between Two Worlds: Amish Children with Special Health Care Needs.' Her professional career includes clinical positions as Staff Nurse at University of Colorado Hospital (2002-2004), focusing on post-operative transplantation patients, and Staff Nurse II in the Pediatric Unit at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (2004-2008), providing care in hematology/oncology, urology, hepatology, neurology, and trauma. She has volunteered as a Registered Nurse at Decorah Free Clinic since 2012 and served as Supplemental Nurse Care Coordinator at Mayo Clinic Pediatric Specialty Clinic (2019-2022). In 2023, Kueny co-founded the Midwest Genetic Clinic, serving as Board Secretary, to provide genetic research, education, diagnosis, and treatment for Amish and Mennonite communities.
Kueny teaches courses such as Management and Leadership in Nursing, Research Methods in Nursing, and Community-Centered Care, emphasizing theory-based education and clinical rotations in community settings. Her research interests encompass cultural perspectives in health care, Amish families' complementary health strategies and collaboration with biomedical providers for children's chronic conditions, forgiveness in Amish communities and education, fibromyalgia experiences and gender roles, and evidence-based practice implementation. Key publications include 'Facilitating the implementation of evidence-based practice through contextual support and nursing leadership' (Kueny et al., 2015, Journal of Healthcare Leadership), 'Old Order Amish Family Management of Children With Asthma' (Kueny, 2021, Journal of Family Nursing), 'Emotional experiences and gender roles of men with fibromyalgia syndrome' (Montesó-Curto et al., 2024, Frontiers in Medicine), and 'Forgiveness Education in Fourth- through Eighth-Grade Classrooms: Development and Evaluation of a New Forgiveness Curriculum' (Toussaint, Kueny, & Stevens, 2024, Education Sciences). Among her honors are the Nena Amundson Distinguished Professorship (2012-2014), NIH Predoctoral Fellowship (2007-2010), Koebrick Endowment for New Faculty (2011-2014), Paideia Sabbatical Award (2018-2019), and multiple student/faculty research collaborative grants.
