Angelyn McDuff serves as Professor of Skills and Director of the LAWR Program at the University at Buffalo School of Law. She earned a B.A. in History from the University of Richmond in 2009, with minors in Education, Law and the Liberal Arts, and Classical Civilization. McDuff received her J.D. cum laude from the University at Buffalo School of Law in 2012, where she served as Head Note & Comment Editor of the Buffalo Law Review, participated in the Trial Team, Jessup Moot Court Competition, and Buffalo Criminal Law Society. She was recognized with the Order of Barristers honor and named a Jessup Northeast U.S. Super Regional Top 20 Oralist in 2011. In 2018, she obtained an LL.M. with honors from the University at Buffalo School of Law. Prior to her academic career, McDuff worked at Citigroup from 2014 to 2018 in compliance roles, including as Vice President, Compliance Officer, and Senior Compliance Analyst, where she researched regulatory developments, drafted memoranda for the Board of Directors, and developed training on political activities and gifts policies. From 2018 to 2019, she was a Staff Attorney at Journey’s End Refugee Services, representing low-income refugees and immigrants in asylum claims, naturalization, and family reunification matters before U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and Immigration Court.
McDuff joined the University at Buffalo School of Law faculty in 2016 as an Adjunct Instructor, teaching International Legal Advocacy and Advanced International Legal Advocacy, and coaching the International Moot Court Competition team until 2016. Since August 2019, she has been a Lecturer in Law for Legal Analysis, Writing, and Research, designing and teaching a two-semester course to first-year students on legal analysis, writing, research, and oral communication skills. Appointed Director of the LAWR Program in January 2023, she oversees administrative aspects and mentors new LAWR faculty. McDuff has presented at legal writing conferences, including “Fact or Fiction: Varied Approaches to Preparing First Year Law Students for Oral Argument” at the ALWD Innovative Teaching Workshop in 2022, “Using Learning Styles to Create Multiple Access Points in a Legal Writing Course” at the Legal Writing Institute One-Day Workshop in 2023, and “Go with the Fleauve: A Coordinated Multi-Year Legal Writing Curriculum for Improving Student Success” at the Rocky Mountain Legal Writing Conference in 2024. She has served on numerous committees, including Chair of the LAWR Hiring Committee (2022-2024), member of the Search Committee for Law School Dean (2023-2024), and Pedagogy and Curricular Planning Committee. Admitted to the New York State Bar in 2014, she is a member of the American Bar Association, Bar Association of Erie County, Legal Writing Institute, Association of Legal Writing Directors, Association of American Law Schools, and Toastmasters.
