Anjali Anders, MD, is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Neonatology at the University of Missouri School of Medicine in Columbia, specializing in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine within the field of Medicine. She holds the positions of Departmental Director of Quality and Safety and NICU Quality Improvement Director at the Children’s Hospital. Dr. Anders completed her medical degree at the University of Missouri Columbia School of Medicine, followed by an internship in General Surgery, residency in Pediatrics, all at the University of Missouri School of Medicine, and a fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She is board-certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and the American Board of Pediatrics in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine. Her career at the University of Missouri began as a pediatric resident, progressed to a neonatology fellowship at Vanderbilt, and returned to faculty roles in neonatology.
Dr. Anders maintains a strong interest in quality improvement to enhance neonatal patient outcomes and disseminate evidence-based practices. She leads projects such as the Reduction of Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia initiative, promoting flexitrunk and bubble CPAP use in the delivery room for infants under 32 weeks gestational age; Improving Evaluation and Management of Early Onset Sepsis, implementing sepsis calculators to reduce unnecessary evaluations and antibiotics in term infants; and Improving Care of Infants with Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome as part of the Missouri Hospital Association-NAS QI Collaborative, focusing on Eat, Sleep, Console methods, non-pharmacological care, and mother-infant dyad integrity. These efforts produced abstracts presented at the AAP National Conference & Exhibition 2021, earning MOC Part 4 credit. Her publications in NeoReviews include “A Neonate with an Abnormally Shaped Head” (2021), “Term Newborn with Abdominal Distention and Bilious Emesis” (2022), “Implementation of Bubble Continuous Positive Airway Pressure in the Delivery Room” (2022), “Term Newborn with Corneal Opacity” (2021), and “Late Preterm Infant Presenting with Petechiae” (2023). In 2025, she delivered Pediatrics Grand Rounds on “Reimagining of M&M Conference with a Focus on Patient Safety/Quality Improvement.” Dr. Anders co-chairs the Missouri Hospital Association Maternal-Child Learning Action Network Perinatal Collaborative and received the AAP/VON Scholar Award. In 2024, she was promoted to Associate Professor in Child Health.
