About Ankit

Ankit Jain is a Lecturer in the UQ Business School, Faculty of Business, Economics and Law, at the University of Queensland. He completed his doctoral studies in Accounting at the Indian School of Business (ISB) and joined UQ Business School as a Lecturer in 2018, following over five years of industry experience at investment banks such as HSBC and Nomura. His research centers on capital market research, the informativeness of corporate textual disclosures, and investors' behavior in the secondary market. Key publications include "Financial statement comparability and qualitative disclosures" (2026, Journal of Accounting and Public Policy, with Oveis Madadian), which examines how qualitative disclosures enhance financial statement comparability; "Disclosure tone and short-selling pressure: evidence from Regulation-SHO" (2025, European Accounting Review), analyzing the impact of disclosure tone on short-selling activities; "Is more always better? Information acquisition and stock price crash risk" (2024, Economics Letters, with Simon Yu Kit Fung and Moumita Tiwari), investigating the relationship between information overload and crash risk; and "Institutional ownership and the informativeness of disclosure tone" (2022, Journal of Business Finance and Accounting, with Hariom Manchiraju and Shyam V Sunder), exploring institutional investors' role in disclosure credibility. Earlier work includes "Demand curves for stocks do not slope downwards: evidence using an exogenous supply shock" (2019, Journal of Banking and Finance, with Prasanna Tantri and Ramabhadran S Thirumalai).

Jain has earned best paper awards at the 2022 Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand (AFAANZ) Conference, the 2018 Financial Markets and Corporate Governance (FMCG) Conference at La Trobe University, and the 2015 IMR Doctoral Conference at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore. His contributions extend to research projects such as "Corporate Behaviour and Climate-related Financial Disclosures – Phase 1" (2025, with Kathleen Herbohn, Belinda Wade, Saphira Rekker, and Michael Turner) and "Disclosure and shareholder voting: evidence from India" (2020, with Wen He and Shyam V Sunder). These efforts underscore his impact on understanding disclosure quality, market reactions, and corporate governance through rigorous empirical analysis in accounting and finance.
