About Anna

Dr. Anna L. Gloyn joined the faculty at Stanford University in February 2020 as Professor of Pediatrics (Endocrinology) and of Genetics, following sixteen years at the University of Oxford, UK. She completed her DPhil at the University of Oxford in 2000 under the supervision of Professor Robert Turner, with a focus on the molecular genetics of type 2 diabetes. Her earlier education includes a BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry (Medical) from the University of Surrey in 1996. Her post-doctoral training took place at the University of Exeter under Professors Andrew Hattersley and Sian Ellard, and at the University of Pennsylvania under Professor Franz Matschinsky.

Dr. Gloyn leads the Translational Genomics of Diabetes Lab, with research centered on the genetics of diabetes, functional genomics, and pancreatic islet cell function. She has held leadership roles including Associate Chair for Basic Science Research in the Department of Pediatrics since 2020, Associate Director for Basic Science at the Stanford Diabetes Research Center since 2026, and various co-director positions within the Stanford Diabetes Research Center. Her honors include election as a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences in 2025, the Outstanding Scientific Achievement Award from the American Diabetes Association in 2022, the Minkowski Award from the European Association for the Study of Diabetes in 2014, and a Wellcome Senior Fellowship in Basic Biomedical Science from 2011 to 2022. She serves as Associate Editor for Diabetes Care and holds multiple editorial and advisory roles in genetics and diabetes research.
