Anna Savvopoulou serves as Chair of the Department of Mathematical Sciences and Associate Professor at Indiana University South Bend. She obtained her Ph.D. in Mathematics from the State University of New York at Albany in 2009, with a dissertation entitled "Almost everywhere convergence of convolution operators on the Heisenberg group." Her research focuses on probability, ergodic theory, harmonic analysis, and analytic number theory. In her role, she also acts as Campus Assessment Coordinator, contributing to institutional evaluation and improvement efforts within the College of Arts and Sciences.
Savvopoulou has published notable works in leading mathematical journals. Key publications include "On the weak-type (1,1) of the uncentered Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator associated to certain measures on the plane" co-authored with Christopher M. Wedrychowicz, published in Arkiv för Matematik in June 2013 and a follow-up in Arkiv för Matematik 52:2 in 2014; "Variation and Oscillation inequalities for convolution products" with Karin Reinhold in Houston Journal of Mathematics in 2013; and "On the smallest number with a given number of divisors" with C. Wedrychowicz in Ramanujan Journal on May 17, 2014. These contributions address advanced problems in maximal operators, variation inequalities, and number theory. She has received the Trustees' Teaching Award from Indiana University South Bend in 2015 and 2021, recognizing her excellence in instruction in the Mathematical Sciences department. Additionally, Savvopoulou has served as Secretary of the Academic Senate for the 2022-2023 term, participated in department liaison roles, and supported math placement through oversight of ALEKS exams. Her office is in Northside Hall, Room 317, with phone (574) 520-4240.
