Dr. Anne Garnett serves as a Senior Lecturer in the Murdoch Business School at Murdoch University. She holds a PhD from the University of Canberra awarded in 2007, a Master of Philosophy in Economics from Murdoch University in 1996, and a Bachelor of Economics with Honours from the University of Western Australia in 1988. Over the past two decades, Garnett has dedicated her career to teaching and researching economics, with a particular emphasis on first-year university economics courses for the last 16 years. She has taught in nearly all areas of economics and has contributed to educational outreach efforts, including developing presentations for high school students to introduce economic concepts.
Garnett's research specializations include labour economics, especially regional labour markets, urban and regional economics, and government policy concerning agriculture and mining. Her scholarly output encompasses key publications such as 'The Effect of the Resources Boom on the Population and Labour Market of Western Australia' published in Economic Papers in 2012, 'Population and Employment Changes in Regional Australia' in Economic Papers in 2007, and 'Population and Labour Movements in Rural Australia' in The Australasian Journal of Regional Studies in 2000. She has co-authored influential textbooks widely adopted across more than 20 universities in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and other countries, including Macroeconomics (Pearson Australia, 2014), Essentials of Economics (Pearson Higher Education AU, 2012), Issues, Indicators and Ideas: A Guide to the Australian Economy (Pearson Education Australia, 2006), The Australian Economy: Your Guide (Pearson Education Australia, 2010), and contributions to the market-leading Essentials of Economics, Sixth Australian edition (Pearson Australia). Additionally, Garnett participated in the 'Golden Fish: Evaluating and Optimising the Biological, Social and Economic Outcomes of Yellowtail Kingfish Aquaculture in Western Australia' project funded by the Fisheries Research and Development Corporation in 2023.
