Dr. Anne Ryden is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Media, Creative Arts and Social Inquiry, Faculty of Humanities at Curtin University, Perth, Australia. She currently serves as Course Lead for the Master of Arts program and coordinates and teaches in Professional Writing and Publishing at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Ryden is a Danish-English translator with several published translations of suspense and crime novels to her credit. Her doctoral research examined the process of literary translation from English to Danish, building on her extensive practical experience in the field. Prior to her appointment at Curtin, she worked as a professional writer and editor in private and corporate sectors, freelanced extensively, and served as Senior Publications Officer and Editor at UWA Publishing from September 2010 to January 2014.
Ryden's research interests focus on translation as a form of professional writing, the evolving role of the professional writer and editor, and the reader's place in text production and consumption. She supervises postgraduate research students, including PhD candidates in areas such as writing business history. Her creative works are documented on her Curtin staff profile for 2018, 2021, and 2022. She has contributed to publications like 'Where the Ink Falls: Curtin Writers Respond to Lindy Lee: Moon in a Dewdrop' (2022), co-authored pieces such as 'Writers Respond at JCG' (2021), and assisted with the Elizabeth Jolley Bibliography project. Ryden received an Honourable Mention in the Curtin Student Guild Excellence in Teaching Awards in the Postgraduate Coursework Lecturer/Tutor category. She is a board member of the China Australia Writing Centre (CAWC), has presented workshops including 'Editing Your Thesis' for the Humanities Graduate Studies office, participated in symposia on translation negotiation and adaptation, and featured in the 'Word and Image' podcast discussing artistic processes.
