Professor Archie Johnston, FTSE, FAICD, HonFIEAust, is an Emeritus Professor in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Sydney. He holds a PhD and has established a prominent career in engineering leadership and academia. As Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technologies from 2009 to 2017, he developed and implemented innovative education policies, advanced research initiatives, and strengthened university-industry partnerships. Previously associated with the School of Civil Engineering, his tenure as Dean marked a period of significant growth in engineering education and technological innovation at the university.

Johnston's academic interests encompass environmental engineering, buoyant jets, future grids, urban hydraulics, and engineering education, reflected in his scholarly output of 86 publications and over 1,300 citations on Google Scholar. He served as President of the Australian Council of Engineering Deans and has been honored with major awards, including the 2007 Sir John Holland Civil Engineer of the Year, the 2007 Entrepreneurial Educator of the Year from the Business and Higher Education Roundtable, designation as one of Australia’s 100 most influential engineers by Engineers Australia, and the 2015 Honorary Fellowship—the highest membership ranking—from Engineers Australia for leadership in engineering education and research. He conducted a national Eminent Speakers Tour, becoming the first academic to receive such an honor. Currently, he acts as Non-Executive Director for Engineering Aid Australia and STEM Teacher Enrichment Academy, and advises the China Communications Construction Group alongside government entities in Australia, China, Chile, and India, extending his impact on global engineering practices.
