Audra S. Rouster, MD, BS, MS, is an Associate Professor in the Division of Gastroenterology within the Department of Pediatrics at West Virginia University School of Medicine. She serves as Division Chief of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition. Dr. Rouster obtained her MD from Wright State University in 2008, MS from Wright State University in 2004, and BS from the University of Rio Grande in 2002. She completed her pediatric residency at the University of Tennessee in Memphis, TN, in 2011, followed by a gastroenterology fellowship at Louisiana State University in New Orleans, LA, in 2014. As clinical faculty, she is board certified in Pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics and specializes in Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition. Her clinical practice includes providing medical acupuncture services to pediatric patients and utilizing telemedicine to reduce barriers to subspecialty care.
Dr. Rouster's research focuses on functional gastrointestinal disorders in pediatric gastroenterology. Key publications include co-authorship of 'Prevalence of Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders in Infants and Toddlers' (The Journal of Pediatrics, 2015), 'Development and Validation of a Rome III Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders Questionnaire for Infants and Toddlers' (Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition, 2016), and 'Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders Dominate Pediatric Gastroenterology Outpatient Practice' (Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition, 2016). She has presented related work at national meetings, such as oral and poster presentations at the Southern Society for Pediatric Research Annual Meeting (2013), Children’s Hospital of New Orleans Research Day (2013), and Digestive Disease Week (2013). Other contributions encompass a book chapter, 'How is infant colic diagnosed and treated?' in Curbside Consultation in Pediatric GI (2013), StatPearls articles on Infantile Colic (2023), Enteral Feeding (2022), and Hepatoblastoma (2023), and a recent case report, 'A case of Burkitt Lymphoma discovered by digital rectal exam' (2024). Dr. Rouster has received the WVU Medicine Press Ganey Top Provider award (2016) and Pediatric Gastroenterology CG-CAHPA Highest Performing in Patients’ Perception of Care (2017). She delivers Pediatric Grand Rounds lectures and participates in award-winning teams like the Improve Care Now Go First Award recipients.
