About Benjamin

Dr Benjamin Tan Yong Qiang is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at the National University of Singapore and a Consultant in the Division of Neurology at the National University Hospital. He graduated with an MBBS from the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine in 2013 on the Dean’s List and received the Lee Hsien Loong Award for Outstanding All-Round Achievement. He completed postgraduate residency training in the National University Health System, where he served as Chief Resident of the University Medicine Cluster, and obtained specialist accreditation in Neurology in 2021. Dr Tan holds additional qualifications including MRCP (UK), M Med (Internal Medicine), and a Master of Clinical Investigation from NUS, supported by a Ministry of Health Healthcare Research Scholarship.

His clinical and research focus centres on vascular neurology, with particular emphasis on ischemic stroke in young adults, cerebrovascular disease genetics, heart-brain interactions, and brain health. From 2024 to 2025 he completed a research fellowship at the Center for Genomic Medicine, Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, supported by a National Medical Research Council Research Training Fellowship. Dr Tan has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed publications and serves as Joint Principal Investigator at the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology, A*STAR, Neurology Specialty Editor of the Singapore Medical Journal, and a committee member of the New Scientific Initiatives Taskforce of the Council on Stroke at the European Society of Cardiology.
