Bhaskara R. Jasti, MPharm, PhD, FAAPS, serves as Professor and Chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences in the Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy at the University of the Pacific, a position he has held since joining the institution in 2001. In 2023, he was appointed the Lam Family Endowed Chair for Pharmaceutical Sciences and concurrently acts as Executive Director of the Jie Du Center for Innovation and Excellence for Drug Development. Jasti obtained his Bachelor of Pharmacy from Kakatiya University in Warangal, India, in 1987, followed by a Master of Pharmacy from Jadavpur University in Calcutta, India, in 1989, and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of the Pacific in 1995. Throughout his career, he has been deeply engaged with professional organizations such as the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) and the Controlled Release Society.
Jasti's research focuses on oral mucosal drug delivery, targeted drug delivery, design of biodegradable drug delivery systems, in vitro and in vivo correlation of formulations, and the effect of food on drug bioavailability and pharmacokinetics, with an emphasis on designing and developing novel drug delivery systems. He has contributed to over 59 publications, accumulating more than 1,600 citations, including key works such as "Evaluation of Polyethylene Oxide Compacts as Gastroretentive Delivery Systems" (2009), "In Vitro and In Vivo Efficacy of Self-Assembling RGD Peptide Amphiphiles for Targeted Delivery of Paclitaxel" (2015), "Effect of Lipophilicity and Drug Ionization on Permeation Across Porcine Sublingual Mucosa" (2016), "Novel Integrin-Targeted Binding-Triggered Drug Delivery System for Methotrexate" (2011), and chapters like "Effects of Food on Drug Absorption" (2011) and "Oral Bioavailability: Basic Principles, Advanced Concepts, and Applications" (2011). He is also a co-inventor on patents such as "Synthetic Antibody Mimic Peptides." His contributions have earned him distinction as the first Fellow of the AAPS at Pacific in 2009, University of the Pacific’s Distinguished Faculty in 2017, Faculty Research Lecturer in 2010, and the 2022 Faculty Mentor Award from the Pacific Alumni Association.
