About Biswajit

Biswajit Sarkar is a Professor and Hwalchun Endowed Professor in the Department of Industrial Engineering within the Engineering faculty at Yonsei University, South Korea, specializing in industrial engineering. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics from Jadavpur University (2002), a Master of Science in Applied Mathematics from Jadavpur University (2004), a Master of Philosophy in the application of Boolean Polynomials from Annamalai University (2008), and a Doctor of Philosophy in Operations Research from Jadavpur University (2010). Sarkar completed a post-doctorate at Pusan National University from 2012 to 2013. His career trajectory includes serving as faculty at Darjeeling Government College (2009–2010) and Vidyasagar University (2010–2014) in India, followed by positions at Hanyang University (2014–2019), before advancing to his current professorship at Yonsei University, where he was appointed Hwalchun Endowed Professor in 2021.

Sarkar's research focuses on inventory models, supply chain management, healthcare cost and supply chain management, pricing, commerce, operations research, sustainability and reliability, AI-based optimization, energy and biomathematics, smart manufacturing, control, and graph theory. He has published 378 journal articles in reputed applied mathematics and industrial engineering journals since 2010, along with four books, achieving top rankings in SciVal topic clusters such as supply chain management, deteriorating items, and economic production quantity. Key publications include 'A sustainable production-inventory model for a controllable carbon emissions rate under shortages' (Journal of Cleaner Production, 2020), 'An EOQ model with delay in payments and time varying deterioration rate' (Mathematical and Computer Modelling, 2012), and 'Environmental and economic sustainability through innovative green products by remanufacturing' (Journal of Cleaner Production, 2022). His accolades encompass the Best Category 2023 Outstanding Professor Achievement Award from Yonsei University, Hanyang University Academic Awards (2017, 2018), Bronze Medal for Capstone Achievement (Hanyang University, 2016), Bharat Vikash Award (2016), International Award from the Korean Institute of Industrial Engineers (2017), and GKF Academic Eminence International Award (2024). Sarkar holds editorial positions including Associate Editor of European Journal of Industrial Engineering, former Associate Editor of Journal of Cleaner Production, and Editor-in-Chief of Green Manufacturing. He has supervised thirty Ph.D. students to completion and chaired international conferences.
