Dr. Blake Lawrence is a Lecturer in the Curtin School of Population Health, Faculty of Health Sciences, at Curtin University. He obtained his PhD from Curtin University's School of Psychology and Speech Pathology, completing his doctoral studies from 2014 to 2016. His thesis focused on examining cognitive function and mild cognitive impairment in people living with Parkinson's disease.
Lawrence's research specializations encompass psychological dimensions of chronic health issues, including obesity, weight stigma, childhood trauma, hearing loss, depression, and cognition in neurological disorders. Key publications include the systematic review and meta-analysis 'Weight bias among health care professionals' published in Obesity in 2021, 'Hearing loss and depression in older adults: A systematic review and meta-analysis' in The Gerontologist in 2019, 'Auditory and Cognitive Training for Cognition in Adults With Hearing Loss: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis' in Trends in Hearing in 2018, 'Cognitive Training and Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation for Mild Cognitive Impairment in Parkinson’s Disease: A Randomized Controlled Trial' in 2018, and 'Activities of daily living, depression, and quality of life in Parkinson's disease' in PLOS ONE in 2014. He has produced 49 publications accumulating over 1,500 citations, reflecting considerable impact in population health and psychology. Lawrence's contributions extend to teaching in the Discipline of Psychology, student supervision, and public engagement through university media on weight stigma and obesity perceptions.
