Blake Segler serves as an Associate Lecturer in the School of Education within the Faculty of Humanities at Curtin University on the Perth campus. He holds the position of Deputy Course Coordinator for the Secondary Education Undergraduate program, contributing to the oversight and development of courses designed to train future secondary educators. Segler is the unit coordinator for EDPR3006, also known as EDP343, Inquiry-Based Learning in Mathematics: Understanding Geometry, offered through Open Universities Australia in 2025. In this capacity, he leads teaching staff consultations and supports students in mastering inquiry-based approaches to geometry education. His portfolio falls under the Office of the Provost, reflecting his involvement in broader academic leadership within the university.
Prior to joining Curtin University, Blake Segler was a High School Mathematics and Science Teacher at Carmel School in Western Australia, a role announced in April 2022. A graduate of Carmel School class of 2009, he studied in the Advanced Science Program at the University of Western Australia. At UWA, Segler was a PhD student in the School of Physics, affiliated with the Medical Physics group around 2014-2015. He advanced to the finals of the UWA Three Minute Thesis competition in 2014 with his presentation titled 'A Vessel of Hope,' addressing research pertinent to cancer therapy. Segler has demonstrated excellence in mathematics through winning the Third Year Prize at the Blakers Mathematics Competition in 2012. He contributed to mathematics education as a member of the National Maths Summer School selection committee for the Mathematical Association of Western Australia in 2021. Additionally, he has participated in outreach activities, serving as a guest speaker for the Curtin Physics Club and appearing at the Future Science Talks event during the Perth Comedy Festival.
