Dr. Khoo Boo Aik serves as a Lecturer in paediatrics and neonatology at the Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Monash University Malaysia, having joined on 1 March 2009 in a fractional capacity. He completed his undergraduate medical degree, MD, at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in 1997. Further qualifications include Membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (MRCPCH, UK) obtained in 2003 and Adjudant Medic (AM, Malaysia). His advanced training encompassed roles as Senior Neonatal Registrar at Liverpool Hospital, Sydney, and Neonatal Fellow at the Royal Hospital for Women, Sydney, both in 2005.
Dr. Khoo Aik's professional career includes positions as Paediatrician at Selayang Hospital from 2003 to 2004, Paediatrician and Neonatal Fellow at Selayang Hospital (2006-2007) and Sungai Buloh Hospital (2007-2008), and Consultant Paediatrician and Neonatologist at Sungai Buloh Hospital from 2008, coinciding with his registration as a National Specialist (NSR) in Malaysia. He also held an appointment as Honorary Lecturer in paediatrics and neonatology at the Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) in 2007-2008. Presently, he practices as a Consultant Paediatrician and Neonatologist at Sunway Medical Centre. His academic and clinical interests centre on care for extremely premature infants, infection control and prevention in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), paediatric infectious diseases, and paediatric dermatology. Dr. Khoo is a certified Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) instructor since 2003 and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) provider. Notable achievements include recognition as a young investigator at the 13th Congress of the Federation of Asia and Oceania Perinatal Societies (FAOPS) in 2004 for neonatal encephalopathy and acute intrapartum hypoxic events; the Neonatal Free Paper Young Investigator Award at the 14th Annual Congress of the Perinatal Society of Malaysia (PSM) in 2007 for '2 years follow-up study among infants born with neonatal encephalopathy'; and the same award at the 15th PSM Congress in 2008 for '2 years neurodevelopment outcome study of the effect of hypothermic therapy among infants born with moderate to severe neonatal encephalopathy'. He received the Excellent Award in public and hospital service in 2003 from the Selangor State Ministry of Health, Malaysia. Memberships include life memberships in the Perinatal Society of Malaysia (PSM), Malaysian Medical Association (MMA), and Malaysian Paediatric Association (MPA), as well as membership in the Academy of Medicine of Malaysia (AMM).
