Boxiang Liu is a Presidential Young Professor in the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the National University of Singapore (NUS) Faculty of Science. He earned a BS in Biophysics from Illinois Wesleyan University, an MS in Statistics from Stanford University, and a PhD in Bioinformatics from Stanford University. Before joining NUS in 2022 as an Assistant Professor, he served as Research Leader at Baidu Research Silicon Valley. His academic appointments also include roles affiliated with NUS biomedical informatics. Liu leads the Liu Lab for Genomic Data Science, where his work centers on advancing medicine through genomics, data science, and machine learning, with emphasis on genetic effects on gene expression, single-cell and spatial QTL mapping, and complex traits.
Liu received the NUS Faculty of Science Young Scientist Award in 2025 and the NUHS Young Investigator Award. He has delivered invited talks at conferences including the American Society of Human Genetics Annual Meeting, Biology of Genomes, Human Cell Atlas meetings, and various international symposia. His contributions appear in high-impact publications in outlets such as Nature Genetics, Cell Genomics, Nature Communications, and Nature. Liu maintains an active research program supported by grants including MOE T1 and T2 awards, and he participates in editorial and committee activities through his lab leadership and professional engagements.
