Brandon D. Lundy is the Chair and Professor of Anthropology in the Department of Geography and Anthropology at Kennesaw State University’s Norman J. Radow College of Humanities and Social Sciences. He holds dual Ph.D.s—one in Anthropology from the State University of New York at Buffalo (2009) and another in Anthropologie/Ethnologie from the Université des Sciences et Technologies de Lille, France (2009)—along with an M.A. in Anthropology from SUNY Buffalo (2005) and a B.A. in Anthropology and Africana Studies from the University of Pittsburgh (1998). Lundy assumed the permanent chair position in May 2023, following an interim appointment in June 2022. He serves as Editor of the journal Economic Anthropology and Associate Editor for the Journal of Peacebuilding and Development.
His research interests encompass economic anthropology, sustainable livelihoods, artisanal alcohol, ethnoeconomics, transnational labor migration, indigenous conflict management strategies, and political ecology, with a focus on West African contexts such as Guinea-Bissau and Cabo Verde. Lundy has edited or co-edited five books, including Indigenous Conflict Management Strategies: Global Perspectives (Lexington Books, 2014) and Teaching Africa: A Guide to the 21st-Century Classroom (Indiana University Press, 2013). Key publications include “Contested Values of Grogue in Cabo Verde” (Economic Anthropology, 2024), “The Effectiveness of Indigenous Conflict Management Strategies in Localized Contexts” (Cross-Cultural Research, 2022), and “Cashews in Conflict: The Political Ecology of Guinea-Bissau’s Cashew Pomiculture” (2022). Among his honors, he received an NSF Cultural Anthropology Senior Research Award (2023–2026, $313,827) for a project on artisanal alcohol in Cabo Verde, participated in Fulbright-Hays in Senegal (2016), served as a Fulbright Specialist in Guinea-Bissau, and acted as U.S. State Department country specialist for Guinea-Bissau. Lundy frequently delivers presentations nationally and internationally and directs student research trips to West Africa.
