Associate Professor Bree Bennett is the Director of the Centre for STEM Education and Innovation and an Associate Professor in the School of Architecture and Civil Engineering at the University of Adelaide. She holds a PhD, a Bachelor of Laws (Honours), and a Bachelor of Civil and Structural Engineering (Honours), all obtained from the University of Adelaide. Her career progression at the University of Adelaide includes serving as a casual lecturer from 2013 to 2017, postdoctoral research fellow from 2017 to 2019, lecturer from 2019 to 2020, senior lecturer from 2021 to 2023, and associate professor since 2024.
Bennett specializes in applying advanced modelling and simulation to environmental engineering problems in water resources, agriculture, and construction. Her academic interests include developing decision support tools for agriculture, scenario-neutral climate impact assessment approaches, stochastic spatial rainfall models and evaluation frameworks, and life-cycle and decision support tools for the construction sector. She is the principal supervisor for PhD student Truong Huy Thien Nguyen (since 2021) on extending the virtual hydrological framework for stochastic rainfall model evaluation. She has co-supervised PhD students such as Lloyd Douglas Dadd (2021-2025) on development of multi-generation recycled aggregate concrete for a circular economy, Vahid Shobeiri (2020-2023) on optimization of structures considering environmental sustainability, and Sam Anthony Culley (2019) on improved implementation of scenario-neutral climate impact assessments for water resource systems. Bennett is a member of the American Geophysical Union (since 2018) and the European Geosciences Union (since 2018).
