Brings energy and passion to every lesson.
Brenda Miller is an Associate Professor of Chemistry at Ohio University Chillicothe campus, listed in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry within the College of Arts and Sciences. She obtained dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Chemistry and Biological Sciences from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2006. As an undergraduate, she performed research in the animal science department under Don Spiers, concentrating on environmental physiology. Concurrently that year, she initiated her Ph.D. studies in organic chemistry at The Ohio State University under the supervision of James Stambuli. Her doctoral work encompassed the development of synthetic methodologies and total synthesis projects targeting nitrogen- and oxygen-containing heterocycles, specifically indazoles, benzimidazoles, and tetrahydrofurans. Dr. Miller completed her Ph.D. in Chemistry in 2011.
Upon earning her doctorate, Dr. Miller worked as an adjunct faculty member at Capital University, Ohio Dominican University, and Zane State University. In 2012, she assumed the position of Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Ohio University Chillicothe, progressing to Associate Professor of Instruction. She instructs courses in general chemistry and organic chemistry. Dr. Miller actively participates in educational outreach programs to engage middle and high school students in STEM fields, including StemStart at Athens, STEM Discovery Day at the Lancaster campus, and contributions to district and state science fairs. Her efforts support early exposure to chemical concepts and scientific inquiry. Contact information includes her office in Bennett Hall 232 on the Chillicothe campus.
