Bridget Betterson serves as the Surgical Technology Department Head in the Health Science faculty at Savannah Technical College. In November 2021, Savannah Technical College selected her for this leadership role, where she develops, manages, and teaches classes in surgical technology. She also develops and coordinates the curriculum, conducts assessments, evaluates the effectiveness of courses through analysis of student data, graduate surveys, and employer surveys, and ensures full compliance with surgical technology accreditation standards established by regional and national accrediting agencies. This comprehensive oversight supports the high-quality training provided in the Surgical Technology Associate of Applied Science Degree program at the institution.
A Savannah native and graduate of Herschel V. Jenkins High School, Bridget Betterson completed her Surgical Technology program at Savannah Technical College, obtaining an associate degree in the field. She holds certification as a surgical technologist from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) and possesses more than 19 years of experience as a certified surgical technologist. Betterson began her tenure at Savannah Technical College as a full-time Surgical Technology instructor in 2018. Prior to that, she was employed at Memorial Health University, during which time she worked in numerous surgical specialties, including general surgery, ear, nose, and throat (ENT), plastics, orthopedics, and neurology. As a member of the Association of Surgical Technologists, she engages with the professional community focused on advancing surgical technology practices and education. Her extensive clinical background and instructional expertise enable her to effectively bridge practical surgical experience with academic preparation for students entering the field.
