Callum Hadlow serves as the Residential Representative for the Otago University Students' Association (OUSA) at the University of Otago. As a final-year Bachelor of Arts student majoring in Politics from the Far North, Hadlow focuses on improving the residential experience for students in flats, university accommodation, and residential colleges. His responsibilities include promoting a supportive flatting culture through publications, campaigns, and educational materials. He has assisted at Flatting Fest, conducted hall visits, participated in Tent City during Orientation and Re-Orientation, and integrated student support services into hall activities. Hadlow maintains relationships with Campus and Collegiate Life Services, the Proctors’ Office, residential college heads, University Flats, and the Locals Programme.
Hadlow is a member of the Residential Committee, Subwarden Committee, Combined Colleges PSC chaired by James Lindsey, and the Colleges Programme Executive Planning Team. He participated in a multi-agency door-knocking campaign in North Dunedin with OUSA President Liam White to promote Healthy Homes compliance, educate tenants on rights, and collect data for an OUSA housing survey building on 1970s and 1990s precedents. His goals encompass reinstating residential committees, conducting flatting surveys, establishing regular liaisons with student representatives, and advocating for rental warrants of fitness and compliance kits. Drawing from personal experience with poor housing, Hadlow advises students to inspect flats in varying weather, select flatmates carefully, and consult OUSA Student Support. Averaging 12.9 hours weekly, he performs executive duties, including voluntary service at Valley Projects community garden and sustainability efforts.
