Carlie Drew serves as a Unit Coordinator in the School of Law at the University of New England, Armidale, Australia. She coordinates key introductory courses for first-year law students, including Foundations of Law, Fundamentals of Australia's Common Law System (LAW100/LLM533) in Trimester 1 2023, Legal Professional Skills (LAW102) in Trimester 2 2023, and has been involved in Law in Context (LAW101). Her teaching focuses on building foundational knowledge and practical skills essential for legal education.
In collaboration with Senior Lecturer Dr. Wellett Potter, Drew has pioneered team teaching methods in first-year law units. They co-presented "Team Teaching in LAW100 – Foundations of Law" at the SABL Teaching Focused Community of Practice Presentation on July 25, 2023; "Strength in Unity: Enhancing First Year Law Learning Through Team Teaching" at the First Year Committee Meeting on August 1, 2023; and "A Winning Formula: the Benefits of Team Teaching in First Year Law Units" at the SABL Innovator's Meeting on August 31, 2023. Their innovative approach earned a School Citation for Excellence in a Team-Teaching Approach that Supports Individualised Learning Journeys by Influencing, Motivating and Inspiring First-Year Students to Study Law in June 2023.
Drew chaired the panel discussion "Should Minors be Banned from the Internet?" during UNE Law Common Law Week on August 22, 2024, with panelists Julia Day, René Cornish, Karen Conte, and Wellett Potter. She also joined fellow UNE Law scholars Julia Day, Karen Conte-Mills, René Cornish, and Wellett Potter for a radio chat with Ash Taylor on Tune FM 106.9, discussing pertinent legal topics. Additionally, she has provided valuable suggestions acknowledged in peer-reviewed publications by Ying Chen, including articles on strengthening immigration support for agricultural labor (2022), improving sustainability and the right to holistic health care (2021), workers' rights in the coffee industry, and regulating cyber racism in the United States.
