Casey Magee is a Clinical Coordinator in the Curtin School of Allied Health, Faculty of Health Sciences, overseeing the clinical education components of the Bachelor of Science (Speech Pathology) (Honours) and Master of Clinical Speech Pathology programs at Curtin University. As a Certified Practising Speech Pathologist who graduated from Curtin University in 2005, she possesses extensive hands-on experience in both paediatric and adult speech pathology, spanning community health services, educational institutions, disability support organizations, and private practice settings. Her dedication to clinical education is evident in her leadership within the Speech Pathology Fieldwork Team, which orchestrates comprehensive clinical placements for students each semester, fostering the development of entry-level professional competencies essential for practice.
In her capacity as Clinical Coordinator, Casey Magee is responsible for sourcing and maintaining a network of fieldwork opportunities, strategically assigning students to placements that align with their learning needs, ensuring compliance with academic and clinical prerequisites, and delivering continuous support to students and supervising clinical educators. She disseminates critical policies and procedures, organizes pre-placement orientation sessions and ongoing clinical tutorials, evaluates and assigns final grades for fieldwork units, and engages in research pertinent to clinical education practices. The team utilizes advanced systems like COMPASS® for competency-based assessments and SONIA for efficient placement management. She is available for consultations on Mondays, Thursdays, and Friday afternoons, guiding students through structured experiences in paediatric, adult, and stuttering interventions.
Beyond her operational responsibilities, Casey Magee actively contributes to advancing clinical education in speech pathology. In collaboration with Lucy Lyons, she presented at the 2024 Speech Pathology Australia National Conference on the SPICE initiative—a pioneering online Community of Practice for speech pathologists interested in clinical education. Initiated through multisite collaboration by academics and clinicians responding to the increasing demand for student placements, the platform was developed following positive feedback from Australasian surveys. Launched in January 2021, SPICE has attracted over 500 members from diverse clinical and academic backgrounds, hosting discussions on more than 65 topics via webinars, forums, and interactive Padlets. Regular member surveys inform its evolution, ensuring sustainability and relevance, while demonstrating the value of online communities in networking, knowledge sharing, and innovative problem-solving in expanding practice areas.
