Catherine Baron is an adjunct staff member in the School of Education at Murdoch University, affiliated with Lakeland Senior High School. As Principal of Lakeland Senior High School, an Independent Public School in South Lake, Western Australia, she places the most important focus on students' success. The school's motto, 'Kalyogool kadadjiny' – Forever listening – underscores her commitment to attentive leadership in education. Under her guidance, the school promotes high-quality teaching and learning for all students, cultivates a strong sense of community connectedness, introduces innovative programs to enable students to reach their full potential, and provides staff with opportunities for professional and personal growth.
In recognition of her outstanding contributions, Catherine Baron received the Director General's Women of Achievement Award in 2022 during International Women’s Day celebrations. This honor highlights her exceptional leadership both in the classroom and in broader educational contexts. One of her standout achievements is the establishment of the Indigenous Serviceperson Garden at Lakeland Senior High School, named Kalyakoorl Ngoornding Boodjar, which commemorates the sacrifices of 13 Western Australian Indigenous servicepeople. Catherine Baron also holds prominent roles in professional organizations, including President of the History Teachers Association of Western Australia (HTAWA) for nearly ten years and President of the History Teachers Association of Australia (HTAA). She serves on the board of the Australian Alliance of Associations in Education (AAAE), drawing on over 30 years of experience in education. Additionally, she has addressed community groups, such as the Fremantle History Society.
