Cathy Scheder is the Associate Dean of Outreach, Extension, and Extramural Programming in the College of Natural Resources at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. She also holds positions as Associate Lecturer for the Ed.D. in Educational Sustainability, Global Affiliate Scholar for the Ed.D. in Educational Sustainability, Associate Lecturer in the College of Natural Resources, and Chair of the Graduate Council. Scheder earned an Ed.D. in Higher Education Leadership from Edgewood College in 2016, an M.S. in Education from UW-Stevens Point in 2008, and a B.S. in Natural Resource Management from UW-Stevens Point in 1991. Since 2012, she has served as an Associate Lecturer in the School of Education and since 2016 in the College of Natural Resources, where she teaches BUS 558 - Budget Management.
Scheder's research specializations and academic interests include youth development, organized camp programming, out-of-school time, non-formal education, not-for-profit leadership, and justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion. Her career history encompasses extensive experience in camp administration, including Independent For-Profit and Not-for-Profit Camp Administration with Camp Nicolet, Inc. (1989-1995; 2006-2007) and Ascension Lutheran Church Outdoor Ministry (1996-2000), as well as Professional Development Manager for the American Camp Association (2000-2006). Key publications include her book “Waterfront management for camp and recreation settings,” second edition (Healthy Learning, Monterey, CA, 2020), and earlier works such as “Great expectations: The reality and practicality of working with Generation Me” in Camping Magazine (2009). She co-presented “The Bridge Between Transformative Learning and Empowering Sustainability Change Agents in an Educational Sustainability Doctoral Program” at the International Transformative Learning Conference in Siena, Italy (2024). Major awards and honors include the Academic Staff Excellence Award from UW-Stevens Point (2017) for contributions to program growth and accreditation, Pioneers of Camping from the American Camp Association (2024), Acorn Award from ACA Wisconsin (2019), and Oak Leaf Award from ACA Wisconsin (2014). Scheder has influenced her field through leadership roles such as Chair of the UWSP Diversity Council (2014-2018), CPS Diversity Task Force Chair (2016-present), American Camp Association National Council of Leaders Steering Committee (2020-2024), and board positions with the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics (2004-2011).
