About Charles
Charles Dobson is a Principal Lecturer in Project Management and Industrial Skills at the University of Cumbria in the Institute of Business, Industry and Leadership. He holds an MSc in E-Commerce, a Post Compulsory Certificate in Education and a BSc (Hons) in Information Technology. With more than 25 years of experience in education, Dobson previously worked in industry in IT roles covering process control, application development, business process re-engineering and agile development. His final industrial position involved leading a Project Office with responsibility for project, programme and portfolio management, developing the team to support organisational decision-making.
Dobson specialises in interpreting organisational requirements and translating them into coherent programme structures to prepare graduates for early career contributions. His academic and research interests encompass technology in the workplace, the application of emerging technologies to social, business and environmental problems, effective use of IT, project management as a profession and the impact of project management education and training on industrial performance. He is a Fellow of Entrepreneurship Educators UK, a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, holds the APMP Level D Award from the Association for Project Management and is a Member of the APM. Dobson has led successful Knowledge Transfer Partnerships, including a 21-month project with M&K Update to develop an e-learning portal and a 10-month project with H. Hogarth to create an e-commerce website. His publications include contributions to conferences such as the International Enterprise Educators Conference in 2013 and the University of Cumbria Learning and Teaching Fest in 2015.
