Dr. Chhaya Thakur, also known as Dr. Thakur Chhaya Damodhar or Dr. Smt. Thakur C. D., serves as Professor and Head of the Department of Analytical Chemistry at S.B.E.S. College of Science, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. She previously held the position of Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Chemistry at the same institution and served as Head of the Chemistry Department from 2014 to 2017. Dr. Thakur earned her Ph.D. from Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad, in 2001. Her career at S.B.E.S. College of Science, established in 1963 with undergraduate programs in chemistry and postgraduate programs in organic chemistry since 2012, involves teaching and research in analytical chemistry.
Dr. Thakur's research focuses on the thermodynamic and physicochemical properties of drug molecules and the formation of metal complexes. She successfully completed a UGC-sponsored Minor Research Project titled 'Studies on Thermodynamic Properties of Drug Molecules' (Reference No. 47-239/12 (WRO), dated 30/03/2013), investigating Phenobarbital Sodium (C11H12N2O3.Na), a sedative and anticonvulsant drug. The project measured density using an Anton Paar Densitometer, viscosity with a Mansingh Survismeter, refractive index via Abbe refractometer, and ultrasonic velocity with a 3 MHz interferometer in aqueous solutions at concentrations of 0.02M to 0.1M and temperatures from 298K to 313K. Key findings indicated solute-solvent interactions through parameters such as apparent molar volume, viscosity B-coefficient, molar refraction, and adiabatic compressibility. She has co-authored publications including 'Formation of binary and ternary complex of Cu(II) with Amitriptyline hydrochloride and Furosemide as primary ligands and amino acids' with V.L. Borde, S.G. Shankarwar, and A.G. Shankarwar; 'Physicochemical properties' with S.B. Ingole and A.G. Shankarwar; 'Study of Physicochemical Properties of Aqueous Solution of Lamivudine at Different Temperatures' with S.B. Ingole, V.R. Choudhari, and A.G. Shankarwar; and 'Thermodynamic properties of aqueous solution of Isoniazid at different temperatures' with S.B. Ingole, D.P. Kamble, and A.G. Shankarwar. Dr. Thakur contributes to departmental activities, including workshops on characterisation techniques in chemical science.
