Chiaki Lawler serves as an Associate Lecturer (Teaching Scholar) in SCU College at Southern Cross University on the Gold Coast campus. She holds a Bachelor of Ministry (BMin), a Graduate Certificate in TESOL (GradCertTESOL) from Griffith University, and a Master of TESOL (MTESOL) from Griffith University. With over 25 years of experience in education management, Chiaki has taught students from diverse backgrounds and ages at private and government institutions in Australia, Japan, and online. She is an experienced teacher trainer, expert English language teacher, and TESOL Trainer and Assessor specializing in pre- and in-service teacher training. Her skills encompass research, coaching, staff development, and educational leadership, positioning her as a strong human resources professional focused on TESOL.
In her role at SCU College, Chiaki oversees the English Language Program and provides student support across campuses, contributing to pathway programs that prepare students for university degrees. Her academic focus includes World Englishes, cross-cultural identity, and communication, with interests in linguistics, English as a second language, and teacher education. She is affiliated with the Japan Association of Language Teaching (JALT), Society for Intercultural Education Training and Research (SIETAR Japan), NIKKEI Australia, and Gold Coast Multicultural Community.
