Christopher Kluse, Ph.D., is the Assistant Director of the School of Engineering and an Associate Professor in the Quality Systems program at Bowling Green State University’s College of Engineering and Innovation. He also coordinates the Ph.D. program in Technology Management. Kluse earned his Ph.D. in Technology Management with a concentration in Quality Management from Eastern Michigan University in 2012, an M.S. in Industrial Engineering Technology with a concentration in Quality Management from the same institution in 2003, and a B.S. in Industrial Systems Management from Lake Erie College in 1998. He holds the Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE) certification from the American Society for Quality (ASQ), certificate number 3815.
Prior to joining Bowling Green State University full-time in August 2015, Kluse accumulated 25 years of experience in the automotive industry as a Quality Manager, Quality Engineer, and Operations Manager. He worked in Lean manufacturing environments for over 15 years and managed within Lean settings for approximately 20 years, engaging with major OEMs such as General Motors, Chrysler, Ford, Toyota, Nissan, BMW, and KIA. As an industry-trained Six Sigma Black Belt, he led many successful Six Sigma projects. He also served as an adjunct lecturer at Eastern Michigan University, teaching graduate-level online courses in Quality Management/Systems, Lean Manufacturing, and Six Sigma, and as a part-time Subject Matter Expert and adjunct instructor at Southern New Hampshire University in the areas of quantitative studies and operations management. At BGSU, he is the Quality Systems eCampus Coordinator. His academic interests encompass Failure Mode Effects Analysis, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma methods for improvement, competency-based education for Quality Systems, applied tools of quality, and quality auditing.
