Chris Prestigiacomo serves as Associate Teaching Professor and Vairam Arunachalam Distinguished Teaching Professor in the School of Accountancy within the Trulaske College of Business at the University of Missouri-Columbia. He received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 1980, Master of Business Administration in 1981, and PhD in Finance in 1995, all from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Prestigiacomo holds the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) certification obtained in 1990 and the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation since 2004. Prior to his full-time academic roles, he worked as Assistant/Interim Controller at Columbia Regional Hospital from 1982 to 1984 and as Senior Fiscal Analyst at the University of Missouri Central Administration from 1981 to 1982.
Beginning his academic career as tenured faculty and Chair of the Business Administration Program at Stephens College from 1984 to 2004, Prestigiacomo also served as part-time adjunct faculty from 1990 to 2004 and visiting professor from 1992 to 1993 at the University of Missouri School of Accountancy. He joined the University of Missouri full-time in 2004 as Assistant Teaching Professor and was promoted to Associate Teaching Professor in 2008. Prestigiacomo teaches undergraduate courses including Principles of Accounting I and II, Intermediate Accounting, Financial Statement Analysis, and Cost Accounting, as well as graduate courses such as Managerial Accounting, often in large classes of 300-400 students. His commitment to teaching excellence has been honored with the 2024 William T. Kemper Fellowship for Teaching Excellence, 2022 University of Missouri ROAR Professor of the Year, 2023 Riggs Excellence in MBA Teaching Award, 2018 School of Accountancy Advisory Board Teaching Excellence Award, 2013 Faculty Member of the Year from Accountancy students, 2009 Teacher of the Year from Kansas City Alumni, and Williams-Keepers Teaching Excellence Awards in 2008 and 2010, among others. Outside the classroom, he advises students on CFA preparation, serves as faculty advisor to the National Association of Black Accountants, Alpha Kappa Psi, and Mizzou Investors Group, and contributes as a reviewer for McGraw-Hill and Prentice Hall textbooks, digital consultant, and editor for CFA materials. His publications include "A Study of Stock Volume and the Dispersion of Beliefs" (Regional Business Review, 1998) and "A Study of Analyst Accuracy and Bias" (Journal of Business and Behavioral Sciences, 1999).
