Christine Kowalczyk serves as an Associate Professor of Marketing in the Department of Marketing and Supply Chain Management within East Carolina University’s College of Business, contributing to the Business & Economics faculty. She earned her PhD in Business with a concentration in marketing from the University of Memphis and her MBA in marketing from the University of Georgia. Before entering academia, Dr. Kowalczyk accumulated 10 years of professional experience in marketing and public relations. Her research focuses on branding, celebrities, non-traditional advertising, and their public policy implications. Publications appear in leading journals including the European Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Theory and Practice, Journal of Product and Brand Management, and International Journal of Consumer Studies. Notable works include “Power of the Platform: Exploring the Promotional Effect of Influencers to Make a Difference” (2025), “The Impact of Compressing MBA Courses on Student Satisfaction: Empirical Results” (2024), “Navigating farm waste problems: introducing the Gleaning Innovation Framework” (2023), “Understanding the relationships between social media influencers and their followers: the moderating role of closeness” (2020), “Transforming celebrities through social media: the role of authenticity and emotional attachment” (2016), and “Insight into the motivation of selfie postings: impression management and self-esteem” (2016). She has presented research at conferences such as the American Marketing Association, Society for Marketing Advances, AMA Marketing and Public Policy, and Academy of Marketing Science.
Dr. Kowalczyk teaches undergraduate and graduate courses and advises the ECU Chapter of the American Marketing Association, supporting students in case competitions. She has been recognized with the East Carolina University Alumni Outstanding Teaching Award and the 2021 Max Ray Joyner Award. Currently, she chairs the Faculty Senate’s Academic Awards Committee and participates in outreach through the Engagement and Outreach Scholars Academy as a 2022 scholar. Dr. Kowalczyk co-developed the Toolbox Leadership Academy, a program fostering leadership skills in high school students via partnerships with local schools and chambers of commerce. Recently, she has presented on artificial intelligence in business and joined the Bureau of Business Research for market research projects, including health insurance surveys for Wilson County. Her contributions extend to public engagement, such as speaking at the Social Media Summit and College of Business Lunch and Learns.
