Claire Bryson is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Health and Life Sciences at the University of the West of Scotland, based at the Paisley campus within the ANCH Division. She qualified as a Registered Nurse in 1995 with a Diploma of Higher Education in Nursing Studies and gained clinical experience in areas including Ophthalmology, Care of the Elderly, Community Nursing, and Theatre. She completed a BSc in Health Studies at the University of Paisley in 1998. Her career in education began in NHS Ayrshire and Arran as a Practice Education Facilitator and Clinical Improvement Practitioner. She then joined NHS Education for Scotland as a Practice Educator, supporting practice learning and workforce development.
Bryson joined the University of the West of Scotland in 2014 as a Teaching Fellow. Following her MSc in Advanced Practice (Practice Education) from the University of Dundee in 2015, she was appointed Lecturer in the School of Health and Life Sciences and promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2019. She currently serves as the Strategic Lead for Practice Learning for the School of Health and Life Sciences and Programme Lead for the Graduate Apprenticeship BSc Operating Department Practice, working with external partners to support programme delivery and practice learning opportunities. She also coordinates modules such as Introduction to Scrub and Circulating Practice and Intermediate Scrub Practice. In 2023, she completed a Professional Doctorate. Her research interests focus on practice education and the experiences of students and those supporting learning in practice, including exploration of pre-registration Operating Department Practice students' experiences in a Graduate Apprenticeship, with intentions to publish her doctoral findings.
