Dr Claire Rodway SFHEA serves as Senior Lecturer in the Linguistics discipline of the School of Humanities, Languages and Social Science at Griffith University, located on the Gold Coast Campus. A dedicated teaching-focused applied linguist, she imparts knowledge in undergraduate and postgraduate TESOL programs, first and second language writing pedagogy, and related areas such as Global Englishes and intercultural communication. As Program Director, she oversees the TESOL Graduate Certificate programs and the Master of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages and Leadership (MTESOL), ensuring high standards in curriculum development and delivery for aspiring language educators.
Rodway's academic journey includes a PhD in Applied Linguistics from Griffith University, awarded in 2018, and a Master of Learning and Teaching in Higher Education from the same university. Her distinction as a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) underscores her expertise in innovative teaching practices. Rodway's research portfolio centers on enhancing language acquisition through empirical studies, with key interests in students' language learning strategies in asynchronous online settings, social strategies in online Chinese learning, prescriptive structures in L2 writing pedagogy, and fostering active participation via dialogic feedback and assessment as learning. Prominent publications feature collaborations with Lijuan Chen on "Social strategy use in online Chinese learning" (2022, Computer Assisted Language Learning) and "Distance Students' Language Learning Strategies in Asynchronous Online Environments" (CALICO Journal, 2023), alongside solo works like "Rethinking the Prescriptive Paragraph Structure in L2 Writing Pedagogy: Opening up Dialogic Spaces" (2017) and "Encouraging Active Participation in Dialogic Feedback through Assessment as Learning" (2017). Additionally, she has engaged in practitioner research projects and contributed to broader discussions on Australia's multilingual assets in promoting English language education internationally.
