Professor Clodagh O'Gorman is the Foundation Chair and Full Professor of Paediatrics within the School of Medicine, University of Limerick, a position she assumed upon returning to Ireland in 2009. She also serves as Consultant Paediatrician at University Hospital Limerick with the Health Services Executive. Her academic background includes graduating with MB BCh BAO (Honours) from the National University of Ireland, Galway in 1999, completing basic and higher specialist training in paediatrics in Ireland by 2007, earning an MSc in Evidence-Based Health Care from the University of Oxford, undertaking a fellowship in Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in Toronto, Canada, and receiving an MD from the National University of Ireland, Galway for research on vascular and metabolic risk in girls with Turner Syndrome. She holds professional qualifications of FRCPI, FFPAEDS, and FRCPCH.
Professor O'Gorman's research focuses on paediatrics, paediatric endocrinology and diabetes, adolescent time use and cardiometabolic health, physical activity for adolescents with type 1 diabetes, and child and adolescent obesity management. During her fellowship in Toronto, she received the Restracomp fellowship from SickKids and the 2008 University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine Research Awards, namely the Joseph M West Family Memorial Prize and the Chisholm Memorial Prize. Key publications include "Adolescent Time Use and Cardiometabolic Health: A Cross-Sectional Compositional Analysis to Explore Associations Between 24-Hour Activity Behaviors and Biomarkers of Cardiometabolic Health" (2025, Journal of Adolescent Health), "Psychiatric boarding: what is it, how do we recognise it, and what are the implications?" (2025, Irish Journal of Psychological Medicine), "A thematic analysis of barriers and facilitators of physical activity, and strategies for management of blood glucose levels around physical activity for adolescents with type 1 diabetes" (2024, Clinical Nutrition Open Science), "Addressing child and adolescent obesity management in Ireland: identifying facilitators and barriers in clinical practice" (2023, Frontiers in Pediatrics), and "Adolescents with Type 1 Diabetes and the Paediatrics Diabetes Clinic" (2023, Irish Medical Journal). She is a member of the HSE Clinical Advisory Group in Paediatrics and serves on the Board of the Faculty of Paediatrics at the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland.
