Dr. Coral Dundon, O.D., serves as Assistant Clinical Professor in the College of Optometry at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. Her journey into optometry began with interests in marine biology and veterinary medicine, particularly involving large agricultural animals. Following experience as a pharmacy technician, she shadowed physicians and optometrists, evaluating Doctor of Medicine and Doctor of Optometry programs. She earned a Bachelor of Science in biology with a minor in chemistry from Missouri State University, graduating summa cum laude. Drawn to the supportive environment at UMSL, she obtained her Doctor of Optometry degree from the UMSL College of Optometry in 2017, where she was selected as Student Marshall. Afterward, Dr. Dundon completed a residency in Primary Care and Ocular Disease at the Marion Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Marion, Illinois. There, she collaborated with student externs in clinical settings, which deepened her commitment to optometric education and faculty roles.
Since joining the faculty in 2018, Dr. Dundon teaches Foundations of Ocular and Systemic Disease Management I, with teaching and research interests in ocular disease, pharmacology, and primary care optometry. She emphasizes pharmacology's importance, informed by her residency experiences. Clinically, she specializes in primary eye care and ocular disease management, serving patients at the University Eye Center, Lindell Eye Center, and East St. Louis Eye Center. Dr. Dundon is a member of the Missouri Optometric Society, St. Louis Optometric Society, and American Academy of Optometry. She engages in university service as a Faculty Senate committee member for the 2025-2026 term and has acted as faculty marshal for UMSL spring commencement ceremonies in 2024 and 2025. Additionally, she serves as a liaison for degree program outcome assessment in the College of Optometry.
